Chesapeake Bay Retriever Picture

If you view a Chesapeake Bay Retriever Picture or several ones, most probably you will develop a liking for this dog. Chesapeake Bay Retrievers are renowned for their superb intelligence, people-oriented disposition and enviable endurance. As they have bred in an area with harsh climatic conditions, they have a dense double coat, which keeps them warm in cold and windy weather. These dogs have proven to possess a surprising skill for retrieving, and this was actually the first retriever to be registered by the AKC. The Chesapeake Bay Retriever received an official recognition in 1878.

Chesapeake Bay Retrievers are sweet and loving companions. They are naturally protective around their loved ones, and they tend to bond with a particular person in a family. However, this does not mean they can be assertive with other members of the family. Chesapeake Bay Retrievers are more dominant than most other hunting dogs. They are quite aloof with strangers and combative with other dogs. As they have long been trained to hunt birds, they may chase poultry instinctively. If you take a look at some Bay Retriever Pictures, this may be enough for you to understand the dog’s temperament, because they have a very expressive countenance.

While a glance at a Chesapeake bay Retriever Picture can be helpful in understanding its temperament, it is not quite enough to understand how to properly manage this dog. Chesapeake Bay Retrievers are physically fit for daily rigorous activity. It is very important for a Chesapeake Bay Retriever to have a good chance to practice hunting, as this is something they cannot do without. These dogs appreciate mental work, as this stimulates their knack for finding and retrieving game. These dogs enjoy hunting and may become frustrated if deprived of an opportunity to hunt for a long time. They thrive on attention and hence they should not be left alone for a long time. Chesapeake bay retrievers require firm and positive training and early socialization.

Chesapeake Bay Retrievers are hardy and healthy dogs. However, there are a few medical issues common to this breed, such as hip dysplasia, von Willebrand disease, progressive retinal atrophy, cataract and some other illnesses. These are hereditary diseases, which affect the dog’s movements, reaction and vision, and hence they can be crippling for these dogs as hunters. Therefore, affected dogs should not be bred, and breeders should take great care to select breeding stock in such a way as not to keep their stock free of unhealthy genes. If you have viewed a good Chesapeake Bay Retriever Picture, this is good, but it takes a little bit of experience and knowledge to be a good Chesapeake Bay Retriever owner.
