Chesapeake bay retrievers are a hunting dog with lots of photos available.
Later the dogs were crossed with native dog breeds. The new breed was approved and seemed excellent. It was used for hunting and successfully. As a result of long careful breeding we have now a good, affectionate, strong animal.

The history of the breed is rather interesting. In winter of 1807 an English ship crashed near the coast of Maryland. There were two Newfoundland dogs on board that survived. The dogs were given to a young family that survived together with the dogs. Chesapeake bay retrievers are a hunting dog with lots of photos available.
